Our colocation services include internet service so your server can connect to the internet and handle the tasks most customers need. Some customers ask us to set up direct connections between our data center and their office instead, using a Metro-E connection to reach the server over a private network. This is typically done for regulatory reasons or for specific business applications, and Vault Networks works with several ISPs to set up this kind of connectivity. Whatever type of connection you need, we can work with you to build it out.
How a Metro-E Connection Works
Providers build this connection between the data center and your office by using fiber they have already run to link point A to point B. If you have multiple branch offices, a hub-and-spoke model is also possible, since the ISP can let those locations reach each other on request. Beyond communicating with the server in our data center, you can also use this kind of connection to communicate between offices on a private network.
What to Look for When Scoping an ISP
When scoping ISP providers, look beyond raw connectivity. Not every provider is equal. Some may need to build fiber into your building if they are not already there, which can add time before service reaches your office and our data center. Also weigh the services offered alongside upload and download speed. Bursting is a good example: it lets you increase bandwidth for set periods by reaching out to your provider. This feature is usually capped at 3 times your normal bandwidth, so a 100 Mbps line becomes 300 Mbps, and a 250 Mbps line becomes 750 Mbps. That is a strong benefit to have available when the business needs it, such as when a new backup server launches in the data center and needs to move data quickly.
ISP Options Available in Our Data Center
What makes the Vault Networks data center stand out is our connectivity to some of the biggest names in the industry, so you do not have to worry about delays on our end. We can set up connections with Level3, AT&T, FPL, Atlantic Broadband, Comcast, and more by connecting directly to them inside the data center, since they all have a presence in our building. Because they are already in the building, we have built close relationships with these providers over the years, so we can get competitive pricing on connections in the data center, and even connections at your office. Just let us know the type of internet connectivity you need, and we will reach out to the ISPs and build out the solution for you.
Whatever ISP you want a Metro Ethernet connection with, Vault Networks can provide a complete, one-stop solution: we get pricing for that provider on top of the colocation, dedicated servers, and vnCloud services we deliver every day.
